Who is Mr. Dunn?
My name is Mr. Josh Dunn. In the interest of creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable I want to give you a brief overview of who I am and where I come from. I graduated from Shamokin Area in 2012. I went on to get my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management from Misericordia University in 2016. I worked a little over a year in an insurance office before finally deciding to pursue my passion for teaching. I worked at a daycare in Mount Carmel while I got my Teaching Certificate from Eastern University, graduating in 2021. I worked as a 4th grade math teacher during the 2022-2023 school year at Weatherly Area, and now I find myself working a short distance from home in the Berwick School District. I live in Mifflinville with my girlfriend and her three kids who are with us full-time and whom I consider to be own children. They go to Central Columbia and are involved in sports and other extra-curricular activities, so if you ever see us out in the community please feel free to say hello!
Teaching is my passion and I spend a lot of my time researching and learning about how to be the best I can be as a teacher. Aside from that I spend most of my time outside of school with my family, coaching my kids in various sports, attending their sporting events, or just hanging out around the house. I am a huge Penn State fan. Whether it be football, wrestling, or soccer I am always rooting for the Nittany Lions. In professional sports I root for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Philadelphia Phillies. I obviously enjoy sports, but some of my other interests/likes/hobbies are vacationing at the beach, anything Disney, and anything Christmas (my family owns the Tharptown Christmas Display in Coal Township). Ultimately I have a wide range of interests, which is one of the reasons I attribute to being able to relate to such a large amount of students each year. I enjoy building meaningful connections with my students and being able to invest myself in not only their academic success, but their overall success in life is something I take great pride in.
